Fixings

Whether you’re building a shed, hanging a picture frame, or repairing a piece of furniture. choosing the right fixing for the job is crucial.

At Mon Timber, we stock several different types of fixings, each with their own features and characteristics – knowing which one to use can be the difference between a successful project and a frustrating failure.

When choosing fixings for your DIY project, it is important to consider the materials you are working with, the weight and stress load the fixing will be under, and the intended use of the project.

It is also important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully, and to use the appropriate safety equipment, such as gloves and safety glasses.

Nails

Nails are a popular choice for many building and landscaping projects because they are inexpensive, easy to use and come in a wide range of sizes and shapes. Common types of nails include:

Ring shanks

Ringshank nails are commonly used for fencing as they provide a firm fix, similar to twist nails.

Masonry

Great for fixing anything to brick or concrete.

Staples

These come in handy for agricultural fencing when nailing any wire or mesh to posts or rails.

Panel pins

These are short, slim nails that are used for attaching lightweight or decorative materials such as trim and mouldings.

Panel pins blend well into the material being fixed, so they are suitable to fix decorative materials.

Square Twist nails

Ideal for fixing joist hangers, nail plates or restraint straps. The twist in the nail add additional strength to the fixing and prevents the nail from being pulled out easily.

All nails are available in a variety of finishes including sheradised and galvanised, which are designed for outdoor use. For any project indoors, any bright finished fixing would be preferable.

Screws

Screws are another popular choice for DIY projects because they offer a strong, reliable hold that can be easily adjusted or removed if necessary. There are many different types of screws available at Mon Timber, including wood screws, drywall screws, decking screws and anchors.

Wood screws

These are designed for use with wood and other soft materials and are available in a variety of lengths and gauges. We supply a range of heavy duty impact rated wood screws for use with impact drivers.

Drywall screws

These are used to attach drywall to studs or framing and are available in coarse or fine thread.

Anchors

Also called concrete screws, can be used for fixing to pretty much any material including, wood, concrete, render or brick.

Decking screws

These come in an organic green coating for protection against the elements and available in 3 sizes.

Adhesives

Wood adhesives are a type of glue used to bond pieces of wood together.

They are essential in woodworking, as they provide a strong, durable and long-lasting bond.

We supply both resin based and polyurethane based wood glue.

Polyurethane will give you a flexible fix for any surfaces that could expand, or contract and Epoxy glues have great chemical and heat resistance.

D4 floor adhesive is a type of wood adhesive that is specifically designed for use in flooring applications.

It is a high-strength adhesive that is water-resistant and able to withstand high levels of stress and strain.

D4 floor adhesive is ideal for use in areas where there is a lot of foot traffic, as well as in areas where there may be exposure to moisture, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
